Manage Your Destiny

Our Story

Your-health-is-my-happiness-540568456_4024x3920.jpg

It all started with Sandia Surgery Center

Two Albuquerque Cosmetic Surgeons, Dr. William Loutfy and Dr. Neil Chen, were tired of the continual issues at local Albuquerque hospitals and the multi specialty ASC facilities:

-Last minute changes to block times

-Last minute changes to hourly rates

-Nonspecialized Facility Staff

-Inconsistent patient care

The solution was to build and operate a  AAAASF Certified Facility for just a singular speciality.  The team put the partnership together and built Sandia Surgery Center, a 3400sqf two OR room facility, for the purpose to perform cosmetic surgery.  The project cost 1.2M, and was completed in Oct 2015.   Sandia Surgery Center investors include the doctors, and our team.  The project has celebrated a 30% ROI YOY.

The team is now expanding the Micro-Specialty Surgery Model to other cities and looking for perspective physician partners who want to share in the profitability of owning their own surgery center.

Our PROCESS

Opportunity

The first step is to give us a call or send us an email from this web site.  We want to speak with you to understand your specific needs.  After a brief conversation, we can determine if we might be a good fit and if it makes sense to move to the next stage.  During our conversation, we will ask you about your current operating facility, how much block time you have, the types of surgeries you perform, and whether you know of other physicians who might share a similar interest in being part of the discovery process.  The Micro Surgery model works well with 2-3 practicing single specialty surgeons.   Once we gather some key information, we will schedule a time to meet with you at your location. This is typically a 30 -45 minute conversation.

Discovery

We have a roadmap and a formula that has proven to be successful.  This formula is based on key data points.  Our team will complete a high level & preliminary assessment of the market and development costs.   During this meeting we will invite all the interested physicians and  have an open conversation to see if there is a viable business model in your area and for your practice. Prior to this meeting, we will ask you to consider including other collogues who might share an interest in investing.  In addition, we will need to understand some specifics about your operating needs and case volumes.  This meeting is usually a 2-3 hour business dinner or meeting at your office or a restaurant.

Proforma & ROI

Moving to the next phase will require a small financial investment as we finalize the exact costs, location and fine tune the details.  The cost to move forward ranges between 3,500-5,000 per person to ensure that certain business costs are covered for the partnership.  This account will be used to cover business expenses and formalize the construction plans and pro forma. The team will spend time meeting with city planners, commercial real-estate agents, construction contractors and potential physician investors.  This money will be placed into an escrow account and whatever amount is not used at the end of this process, will either be rolled over into the next phase or distributed back to the investors.  Before we embark on this phase, all potential partners will be asked to sign a CNDA.

At the end, we will complete a in-depth Proforma which will include a specific location, detailed construction estimates and a timeline to complete.  Once this is complete, we will present our recommended Return on Investment (ROI) and talk about the next steps required to move forward.  Moving into the next phase requires formalizing the legal partnership, signing a lease and an initial investment from each partner to cover the development and start-up costs of the project.  When we get to this point, it will be important to make a decision about how to move forward as the group may lose the desired location if too much time passes. This phase can move very quickly and can be completed within 3-4 weeks.

Partnership Formation & Construction

If we decide to move forward, our team will share our  prepared  partnership documents.  We encourage you to review them and meet with outside legal council if needed.  Our business model is based on working with practicing surgeons and are not interested in having outside investors as partners.   We have found this to be a clean way to keep our mission clear - to support the practicing surgeon and their patients, not outside entities.   Once the partnership documents are signed and  the initial  investments is made,  we can begin the construction process.

The construction process can vary depending on the building requirements.   During the entire process, we will communicate with our physician partner’s on a regular basis and you can expect to be updated with progress reports every 2 weeks. In addition, you will have direct access to the person who will be managing the project at your location.   You can expect to have regular meetings to discuss the financial status and project updates.   Our goal during the construction phase is to move forward as quickly as possible.  Careful project management and contract negotiations are critical because this process can take 10 - 18 months from start to finish.

AAAASF Certification & MANAGEMENT

Approximately three months prior to performing our first procedure, we will start the hiring process to identify the key surgical staff and ensure they are properly trained.   AAAASF certification will be scheduled within the first 2-3 months of operation and our "Start-up" manager will set up residence as we hire, train and prepare for AAAASF certifications.  Our company has developed a comprehensive set of procedures for AAAASF certification and we have had tremendous success with passing every audit. As we ramp up and start to perform cases, we will gradually transition responsibilities to the new On-Site Manager who will be a permanent employee at the center  and report directly to the Management Team of MD Owned Surgery Centers.

Investing in my own surgery center was the best decision for my patients and my business. My only regret is not doing it sooner.

Benefits to Investing

Sharing in the ownership of the facility Allows you to control your destiny

VIP patient care

VIP patient care

PAtient CAre

Patient care is our number one focus.  By operating in a specialized surgery center, you minimize a patient's exposure to infectious disease.  Most of the patients who enter our facilities are healthy.  By building centers around a single specialty practice, we minimize the risk for dangerous exposures found in hospitals.

We offer a white glove service when it comes to scheduling, admitting and discharging patients.  Patients feel special during every aspect of care.  Many patients request a 23 hour recover service and we can easily accommodate that if needed.

Our nurses and medical assistants are trained to work with you and anticipate your surgical needs.   Knowing that you will have a consistent and well trained staff minimizes potential issues that can arise when there is the staff  turnover that can be found in a hospital.

Increase your personal wealth

Financial Gain

Creating another stream of revenue can help with fulfilling dreams outside of work.  Whether it is travel, family, or personal stability; sharing in the facility profitability helps with your personal well being.  Most surgeons do not share in the facility fee of where they operate.  With MD Owned Surgery Centers, you have the potential to benefit financially because you bring your patients to the center which ensures that it will be utilized.  Unlike the stock market where you have very little control, you have a direct impact on the volume of the center.

Reducing costs is a critical to profitability and our management team is constantly looking at how we can minimize expenses.  Our single specialty model allows us to carry a smaller inventory.  In addition, we are able to leverage volume discounts with suppliers to get specialized pricing across all our centers.  In the end, this benefits all the investors.

Work in the ideal surgical environment.

Physician Oriented

State of the art equipment  and supplies are critical and can make a huge difference in patient outcomes.  When you invest in one of our centers, your surgical suite is built for you and your needs.  Our team works with you to purchase the instruments that you need and will ensure that your OR is turned over quickly for your next patient.  We have the option to build-out a 23 hour care option for patients who would like hands-on nursing care post-op.

Scheduling is easy.  We will give your office access to a secured server that they can access 24/7.  Each physician partner will have set days so they can stack their patients and perform surgeries.  This results in tremendous efficiencies in your office as you can manage your time with patients more efficiently.

Having MD Owned Surgery Centers manage the day to day operations reduces the burden of having to cover all the expenses on running your own OR.  You are the expert when it comes to your specialty and taking care of patients. MD Owned Surgery Centers has the staff, protocols, and knowledge to run competitive surgery centers.  Increase your quality of life by allowing us to manage the day to day operations.

Quality of life

Quality of Life

You have worked very hard to become an expert in your field and having a work / life balance is important to your emotional and physical well being.  When you invest with one of our partnerships, you can take a vacation and not have to worry about whether or not the staff has work, bills are being paid and the facility is being utilized. We are an agile team that make changes quickly.  This becomes increasingly important as we hone the environment and staff to meet your specific needs as a surgeon.  We are not catering to a multi-specialty practice - rather, we are refining the protocols to specifically meet what will work best for you.

Sandia Surgery Center

Albuquerque, New Mexico - 2015

Sandia Surgery Center is a renovated space that was converted from an office space into a surgical suite in 2014.  The center originally opened with one Operating Room and two practicing cosmetic surgeons. The center performed their first procedure in 2015 and within a year the center was at capacity.   In 2016, the center expanded to two Operating Rooms and is currently utilized by five surgeons. The success of this center has enabled our company to build a model that can be easily replicated.
